HEARTLAND COMMUNITY SCHOOL’S TOP WEIGHT LIFTERS
The Heartland athletic department is presenting t-shirts to male and female students who achieve certain levels in the weight room. The categories include: 200 and 250 lb. bench press for boys, 130 lb. and 150 lb. bench press for girls, and an elite level for both boys and girls.
The elite qualification for both boys and girls includes three lifts: bench press, parallel squat, and hang clean. The boys total on the 3 lifts must exceed 5 times their body weight. The girls must exceed 4 times their body weight on the combined total of the 3 lifts. The new program is being supervised by Erik Wetjen and Larry Vancura.
The students earning t-shirts for bench pressing 200 lbs. were Derek Stamp, Ethan Schaldecker, William Epp, Jarred Erb, Luke Fochtman, Jordan Gibson, Al Fhuere, Seth Schaldecker, Cordell Gregory, and Quint Geis. Jason Sherman was awarded a t-shirt for a bench press of 250 lbs. and Quint Geis was the only student to reach the elite level.
