5th and 6th Grade Students Celebrate the 100th Day of School

Fifth and sixth grade students celebrated the 100th day of school on Friday, January 23 with a variety of activities.

The sixth grade students rolled a die to see how many rolls it takes to reach 100 without going over.  Portia Lyons reached 100 exactly with 26 rolls of a die.  The students then calculated the mean, median and mode range of the rolls.

In the gym the students shot basketballs until 100 baskets were made and then formed the number 100 by lying on the gym floor.

The sixth graders brainstormed words that are associated with 100 such as 100% cotton, 100% juice, 100 years in a century, 100 cents in a dollar, and 100% for a perfect score on homework or a test.

The fifth grade students predicted the outcomes of tossing a penny 100 times and rolling dice 100 times.  They then completed the activities to see who correctly predicted the outcomes.

The students determined how much 100 pennies weighed and many milliliters 100 drops of water are.  They wrote in their journals about what they would do if they won $100,000.
