Paper Plates, Straws and Cotton Balls!

Mini-Metric Olympics

By Sherryl Friesen

The fifth graders participated in four mini-metric Olympic Events called the Paper Plate Discus, the Paper Straw Javelin, the Cotton Ball Shot Put, and the Big Foot Contest.   Fifth grade students used milliliters, centimeters and meters to predict how they would do.  The students with the closest prediction to their actual measurement were the winners of a gold, silver or bronze medal.
